Yea. What Hilary Harkness said.
My tiny collection (with a little c) is work I love by artist at very early stages in their careers. My relationship with the artists and their work is very special. I was able to help support them in a small way and they helped me develop a deeper appreciation of their work. It is really cool!
For example, here are a few pieces I’ve collected from art students at Gage Academy of Art. These pieces by Jameson Hubbard, Ethan Lind and Chris Davis, respectively, were among a developing body of work that spoke to me. I always enjoy having this work in my home, and enjoy my ongoing relationships with these artists.
Oh. You might also notice these are all works on paper. Works on paper tend to be more affordable if you’ve got a tiny art collecting budget.
The most important thing… only buy work you love. You’d be amazed how much it changes your day to have work around you that inspires you. There is nothing like it!
