The Trap of Certainty
A painting isn’t a mirror—it’s a glimpse at something just beyond reach. In my work, I explore these liminal spaces, where reality bends and perception deceives. What we see is never the whole story. Reflections distort. Perspectives shift. Reality bends. We like to think we know what’s in front of us, but certainty is a trap.
Into Flat Space: Fractured Reflections
My painting Into Flat Space, part of my ongoing series, plays in that gap—the tension between perception and truth, between the self we recognize and the one that stays just out of view. Mirrors promise familiarity but deliver something slightly off. A version of you, but not quite. A place you know, but altered.
What’s Missing?
Ever looked into a mirror and felt like something was missing? Like there’s more there than meets the eye? Maybe it’s a trick of the light, or maybe it’s a reminder that we are never just one thing. We are layers, contradictions, shifting interpretations of ourselves. Art taps into that—it offers recognition but never total comprehension. It’s like a good plot twist—satisfying but still leaving room for speculation.
Seeing Beyond the Surface
If you’ve ever questioned what’s real in your own reflection, congratulations—you’re paying attention. That sliver of doubt, that nagging sense of something more, is the space where art lives. And maybe, just maybe, it’s a good thing that some things remain just out of reach. After all, wouldn’t life be unbearably dull if everything had a neat little explanation?
Drop your thoughts below—I’d love to hear them. And if you’re drawn to art that challenges perception, explore more of my work. If this resonates, pass it along—someone else might need that little jolt of curiosity today.
